Types of Bread

Bread is a very common staple among many different cultures. Bread is made from yeast, flour, and a variety of other ingredients. There are sweet breads to choose from as well just by adding some different ingredients to the mix. White bread is the most common type of bread the most people choose. This type of bread is mixed and then left for several hours so that the dough can rise. It is then baked in an oven until it is golden brown. Rye and French bread are baked in the same manner but they don't rise as high as white and wheat bread. Flatbreads are those that don't rise very much at all.

Whole meal breads are those that consist of at least 90% whole meal. The main difference when mixing this type of bread is that you have to add a great deal more water to the mix because the bran in the whole meal absorbs it. If you don't add sufficient water to the mix, the dough won't be able to rise properly. Many people prefer baking this type of bread because it tastes great as well as contains more vitamins, nutrients, and fiber that are good for you than white or wheat breads.

Multi grain breads are those that are made of whole meal mixed with wheat germ, honey, and various types of whole grains such as corn and rye. This type of bread looks very similar to white bread but it has a much different taste due to the grains in it. Rye bread is made the same way with the exception that rye flour is used instead of regular flour.

Fruit cake that is so very popular around the holidays is actually a type of fruit bread. The common ingredients include nuts, sugars, raisins, dates, orange peels, and a variety of dried fruits. There are many delicious sweet breads that people enjoy. Banana nut bread and cinnamon bread are very popular.
