Bread is a very common type of food that consists of flour and yeast to help it rise. There are many different types of bread to choose from including white, multi grain, and sweet breads. This is a common food that is found in almost every type of culture. Bread can be baked in a large oven and commonly comes in loaves that you can slice or that have been sliced for you. Have you ever heard the saying " the best thing since sliced bread"? This is because bread used to only be sold in loaves. Consumers went wild for the convenience of bread that was sold already in slices!

Today most bakery's are well known for the great sweets and cakes they make. However, bakers used to be well known for the fresh bread the provided each day. Bakers are one of the earliest trades known. It is believed bakers were very well respected for their work and those who baked bread for the rich or the Kings were given lavish living quarters and luxuries for their services.

Bread has been around for centuries, and some loaves have even been found among the tombs of Egyptians that date back to 500 BC. Bread also is involved in various locations throughout the Bible. Some people think bread is an "evil" food due to the amount of carbohydrates it contains. It is not uncommon for individuals to eliminate this food from their diet as a way to lose weight.

Early forms of bread were made by grinding down corn into a paste. It was easy to store and bread was also very filling when meat supplies were scarce. Bread could be stored throughout the winter and the ancient people soon found a great way to prevent starvation throughout the harsh winters. It could also easily be carried for hunting trips or other types of travel.

Today, There are still some bakers who deliver fresh bread each day to customers. One of the most well known fast food outlets, Subway, is well known for their fresh baked breads that are offered daily. Most of us enjoy the convenience of buying fresh baked bread from our grocery store of the conveniently sliced bread that we take for granted when we need it.
